About the Role

Assistant Manager – Accounts

📍 Guildford | Full-Time | Accounts & Advisory

We’re recruiting for an Assistant Manager to support a Director with a growing client portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to step into a more senior, client-facing role with exposure to advisory work, team development, and business growth.

You’ll work across a varied portfolio of sole traders and SMEs, combining accounts, tax, and operational support with increasing involvement in FP&A and strategic work.

What You’ll Do

Client Management & Advisory

  • Support the Director with their client portfolio
  • Act as a key point of contact for client queries
  • Build strong client relationships and provide practical advice

Accounts & Compliance

  • Prepare and review management accounts for a range of clients
  • Prepare and review tax and VAT returns
  • Ensure work is completed in line with UK accounting standards

Operations & Oversight

  • Oversee outsourcing and bookkeeping functions
  • Liaise with teams across multiple offices
  • Collect and analyse practice data for reporting

Team & Development

  • Support training and development of junior staff
  • Review work and provide constructive feedback

Business Growth & FP&A Exposure

  • Contribute to business development and client growth
  • Gain exposure to FP&A and financial management tasks
  • Support reporting, expense tracking, and financial insights

What We’re Looking For

  • ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Strong experience preparing management accounts (essential)
  • Confident communicator with client-facing experience
  • Experience reviewing trainee work and providing feedback
  • Strong technical knowledge with practical application
  • Ability to manage projects, deadlines, and budgets
  • Proactive problem solver with strong organisational skills
  • Experience with Xero (essential)
