About the Role
📍 Worthing | Full-Time | Personal Tax & Trusts
Build long-term client relationships. Deliver meaningful tax advice. Take ownership of an established portfolio.
Not every tax role is about managing endless compliance deadlines.
This opportunity offers the chance to take ownership of a well-established personal tax portfolio within a respected independent practice, where you'll work closely with the Partners, advise clients on complex tax matters, and play an important role in the future of the firm.
Supported by an experienced Tax Assistant, you'll combine compliance with advisory work across personal tax, trusts, capital gains tax and inheritance tax, giving you the autonomy to make a genuine impact.
Why Join?
This is a key position within a close-knit practice where you'll have the freedom to manage your own portfolio, build trusted client relationships and influence how the tax function continues to evolve.
You'll enjoy direct access to the Partners, a varied workload and the opportunity to develop both technically and commercially without the layers of management often found in larger firms.
Where You'll Make an Impact
You'll manage a substantial portfolio of personal tax clients, ensuring an excellent level of service while identifying opportunities to add value.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Managing a portfolio of personal tax clients.
-
Reviewing and signing off self-assessment tax returns.
-
Managing compliance deadlines and HMRC correspondence.
-
Planning workflow to ensure a smooth and efficient service.
Deliver trusted tax advice
Alongside compliance, you'll provide practical advice across a broad range of personal tax matters.
This includes:
-
Income Tax.
-
Capital Gains Tax.
-
Inheritance Tax.
-
Pension and investment tax planning.
-
Supporting Partners on more complex advisory assignments.
Develop your expertise in Trust Taxation
Trust work forms an important part of this role.
You'll prepare and review trust tax returns while advising trustees and beneficiaries on trust taxation, capital gains tax and relevant property matters.
Support the future of the practice
Working closely with the Partners, you'll help improve systems, develop internal processes and support the continued growth of the tax department.
You'll also supervise an experienced Tax Assistant, providing technical guidance and maintaining high standards across the team.
Is This You?
You'll already have strong experience within personal tax and be looking for a role where you can take greater ownership and build long-term client relationships.
You'll ideally have:
-
ATT and/or CTA qualification (CTA preferred).
-
At least five years' post-qualified experience within practice.
-
Strong experience managing personal tax portfolios.
-
Proven trust taxation experience.
-
Experience dealing with HMRC enquiries.
-
Knowledge of Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax planning.
-
Excellent organisation and communication skills.
-
A proactive and commercially minded approach.
Why This Role?
Some tax roles focus almost entirely on compliance.
This one gives you the opportunity to combine technical expertise with advisory work, work closely with experienced Partners and become a trusted adviser to long-standing clients.
If you enjoy autonomy, variety and building lasting relationships, you'll feel right at home here.
