Senior Accountant

About the Role
📍 Brighton | Full-Time | Hybrid Working
Work with ambitious businesses. Build genuine client relationships. Progress your career.
Some accountancy firms focus purely on compliance.
This isn't one of them.
You'll join a modern, forward-thinking practice that works closely with technology start-ups, scale-ups, property businesses, crypto clients and high-net-worth individuals. Rather than simply preparing accounts, you'll become part of your clients' day-to-day support network, helping them make informed financial decisions as their businesses grow.
Your Role
Working closely with the Director, you'll play an important role in supporting a varied portfolio of clients while helping develop junior members of the team.
No two days will be the same. You'll combine technical accounting with advisory work, client meetings and cloud accounting support, giving you exposure well beyond a traditional accounts role.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
- Reviewing bookkeeping and VAT returns.
- Preparing corporate and personal tax returns.
- Supporting clients with budgeting and cash flow forecasting.
- Advising clients on Xero, Dext and cloud accounting solutions.
- Helping businesses transition from manual bookkeeping to cloud-based systems.
- Responding to client queries and providing practical accounting advice.
- Preparing correspondence for HMRC, Companies House and other third parties.
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members.
- Building strong client relationships through regular communication and meetings.
- Networking and representing the firm where appropriate.
Who We're Looking For
You'll already have experience working within an accountancy practice and be looking for a role that offers greater client exposure and genuine career progression.
You'll ideally have:
- ACA or ACCA qualification, or be nearing qualification.
- Strong knowledge of FRS 102 1A and FRS 105.
- Experience preparing accounts, VAT returns and tax returns.
- Confidence using cloud accounting software, particularly Xero and Dext.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
- Commercial awareness and a genuine interest in helping clients succeed.
Why Join?
This role offers more than technical development.
You'll work directly alongside the Director, gain exposure to a wide range of interesting businesses and have a clear pathway towards Manager as the firm continues to grow. If you're looking for a role where you can influence clients, broaden your experience and accelerate your career, this is an excellent opportunity.
Benefits
- 36-hour working week.
- Flexible working across four or five days.
- Hybrid working.
- Clear progression to Manager.
- Exposure to innovative and fast-growing businesses.
- Supportive, collaborative working environment.
