About the Role

📍 Hove | Full-Time

Build trusted client relationships. Lead meaningful conversations. Take the next step towards Client Manager.

Some roles give you more work.

This one gives you more ownership.

As an Assistant Client Manager, you'll bridge the gap between producing great technical work and becoming the trusted adviser your clients rely on.

You'll begin managing your own client portfolio, work alongside experienced Client Managers, support business owners through regular planning meetings, and help develop the next generation of accountants.

If you're ready to move beyond purely preparing accounts and start building long-term client relationships, this role has been designed with your progression in mind.

Why Join?

This practice believes accountants should do more than produce compliance work.

You'll become part of a team that values proactive advice, genuine relationships, and helping clients make better business decisions.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Build your own client portfolio.

  • Develop advisory and relationship management skills.

  • Mentor junior team members.

  • Work closely with experienced Client Managers.

  • Progress towards becoming a Client Manager yourself.

Where You'll Make an Impact

Become the trusted contact for your clients

You'll gradually take ownership of your own portfolio, becoming the person clients know, trust and enjoy working with.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing day-to-day client relationships.

  • Leading and supporting quarterly client review meetings.

  • Responding to client queries with practical, commercial advice.

  • Ensuring an exceptional client experience throughout the year.

Deliver high-quality technical work

You'll continue building your technical expertise by preparing and reviewing work across a varied portfolio.

This includes:

  • Year-end accounts.

  • Management accounts.

  • VAT returns.

  • Personal tax planning work.

  • Clearing review points efficiently and accurately.

  • Quality and attention to detail remain at the heart of everything you do.

Help others succeed

You'll play an important role in developing junior members of the team.

That means:

  • Supporting and mentoring colleagues.

  • Sharing knowledge and best practice.

  • Helping maintain technical standards.

  • Creating a collaborative team environment.Think ahead, not just deadline to deadline

Success isn't measured solely by completing work.

You'll also be encouraged to:

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes.

  • Spot issues before they become problems.

  • Communicate proactively with both clients and colleagues.

  • Continuously develop your technical and commercial knowledge.

Is This You?

You'll probably already be working within an accountancy practice and feel ready for greater responsibility.

You'll ideally have:

✔ Experience preparing year-end accounts.

✔ Experience preparing management accounts and VAT returns.

✔ Confidence communicating directly with clients.

✔ Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

✔ A proactive approach to solving problems.

✔ The ambition to build long-term client relationships rather than simply complete compliance work.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't just about producing accurate accounts.

It's about becoming someone clients trust, colleagues rely on, and junior team members learn from.

As your experience grows, so will your client portfolio, responsibilities, and opportunities to progress into a Client Manager position.
